Body Laser

Laser hair reduction, as a course, with realistic expectations set first.

Body Laser

What this actually involves

Laser targets the pigment in the hair, which is why it works best where there is good contrast between hair and skin, and why results vary so much between people. It needs a course: hair grows in cycles, and only the hair in the active phase responds to any one session.

It is usually described as hair reduction rather than removal, and that word matters. Most people end up with noticeably less, finer, slower-growing hair, and most need occasional maintenance afterwards.

  • Reduction, not removalThe honest word, and the one used here.

  • A course, by necessityHair cycles mean single sessions achieve very little.

  • Patch testedA small test area first, and a wait, before a full session.

  • Expectations set firstResults vary with hair and skin type, and you are told how.

How it is staged

Three stages, in this order

Each stage ends with a decision point — nothing moves forward on autopilot.

Consultation and patch test

Stage 01

Consultation and patch test

A look at the area, a conversation about your hair and skin type, and a small test patch with a wait before going further.

The course

Stage 02

The course

Sessions spaced by weeks to match the hair growth cycle, over several months.

Maintenance

Stage 03

Maintenance

Occasional top-ups once the course is finished, which is normal rather than a sign it failed.

Why it is done this way

What you get out of it

Realistic from the start

You are told what your hair and skin type means.

Properly spaced

Sessions timed to the growth cycle, not to fill a diary.

Patch tested

A test area and a wait before a full treatment.

Compared against your baseline, not against a feeling

Every stage is recorded — vocabulary, sentence length, intelligibility, measurements and, where you have them, blood results. You see your own numbers next to where you started, which beats being told it is going well.

Questions

About body laser

Is it permanent?

It is permanent reduction rather than permanent removal. Expect noticeably less and finer hair, and occasional maintenance sessions afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

A course spread over months, because only hair in the active growth phase responds to each session. The number depends on the area, your hair and your skin.

Does it work on every hair colour?

No. It works on pigment, so dark hair responds best. Grey, white, red and very fine blonde hair respond poorly or not at all — you will be told honestly if that is your situation.

What do I need to do before and after?

Do not pluck, wax or thread for several weeks beforehand — the root has to be there. Shave the area as instructed. Afterwards, avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen on the area.

Who should not have it?

Tell me if you are pregnant, take photosensitising medication such as isotretinoin or certain antibiotics, have an active skin infection or a recent tan in the area, or a history of keloid scarring.
